A client from Clayton rode into Adrenaline Autosound looking to upgrade his 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glide audio system. He had a few specific goals in mind: more output, better clarity and only use fairing speaker locations. After looking over the bike with him and auditioning equipment, we worked up a proposal for him that he approved. During our listening session, he liked some of our cutting-edge models. At that point, we explained that a tweeter location would be needed, so we discussed options. He agreed to let us remove the air temperature gauge and voltage gauge, giving us a great spot to mount the tweeters.
Focal Front Speakers
We began by installing a set of Focal 165KRX2 6.5” component speakers. We installed the woofer in the fairing in the original location using one of our composite speaker adapter plates. Our installers fabricated a new speaker grille to upgrade the cosmetics of the fairing. Next, we removed the two gauges and installed the Focal tweeters in their spot, making the tweeters look factory-equipped. We soldered every connection and applied heat-shrink for the ultimate in reliability.
Compact Focal Amplifier
At this point, we turned our attention to adding more power into the system. We used a Focal FD2.350 amplifier for its combination of great output and compact size. Unfortunately, Harley fairings don’t come from the factory set up to hold an amplifier. No worries here, since the technicians at Adrenaline Autosound are some of the finest on the East Coast. We fabricated a custom bracket out of ABS that uses six factory mounting points, so it is very secure. It holds the amplifier in place right above the radio, yet allows for easy servicing in the future.
Wiring Upgrades
Now we turned our attention to wiring up the system. If you have ever looked at a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with the panels removed, you will notice the wiring looks sloppy. The good news is that our wiring standards are higher than Harley’s, so now the stereo wiring is neatly loomed and properly secured throughout the bike. We took special care to keep the wiring hidden, so it wouldn’t detract from the cosmetics of this beautiful bike.
Client Loved His Street Glide Audio System
When the client came to pick up his motorcycle, he thought we hit the nail on the head with the project. He loved the quality work and, when we cranked it up for the first time, he was all smiles.
