A client from Raleigh recently contacted Adrenaline Autosound about a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 laser system with radar. He had done a lot of research and was impressed with our approach to system design and installation. After inspecting his vehicle and a discussion about his expectations for the system, we designed an AL Priority solution that would fulfill his requirements.
Corvette Z06 Laser System Installation
The AL Priority system we designed uses three laser sensors on the front of the vehicle and two on the rear. The front sensors fit nicely into the openings of the front grille with no modifications.
The Corvette has a lip above the rear license plate to which we could mount the pair of aft sensors. While the location was optimal, the sensors looked out of place. After a discussion with the client, we created a pair of mounting pods for the sensors out of several layers of ¾-inch acrylic plastic. We used 8-32 threaded inserts to attach the pods to the vehicle to maintain their serviceability.
All the wiring for the sensors has quick-disconnects so the bumpers can be removed for servicing. As always, the signal and control cables are routed along factory wiring paths to ensure that the system will function reliably.
AL Priority Net Radar DSP Upgrade
We mounted two Net Radar DSP receivers on the vehicle. The radar receivers are concealed behind the front and rear bumper covers and detect X, K, and Ka band radar guns as well as MRCD (Photo Radar) installations.
Custom AL Priority Control Panel Installations
The client wanted the small control panel for the system to look as though it was part of the vehicle, rather than an accessory. We created a mounting panel out of ¼-inch acrylic plastic to locate the controller inside the center console storage area. Once we had the part fitted perfectly, we finished it with a textured black paint that matches the interior trim.
The ALP system includes a warning LED to alert the driver to laser and radar. We incorporated a multi-color LED into the overhead dome light assembly. The LED light is visible when providing a warning but remains otherwise unobtrusive.
Custom Radar Detector with Laser Defense
With the system installed and tested, it was time to return the vehicle to its owner. He was very impressed with the way we had integrated the Corvette Z06 laser system into the car.
